Thanksgiving Part 2

After tasting Canadian thanksgiving in Victoria it was time to see how the Americans did it, Laura spent almost a day in the kitchen on Wednesday baking various desserts including her famous apple pie, sweet potato muffins and I attempted the carrot cake I learnt at Rob and Debs.

On Thanksgiving morning Laura and I had signed up for the Turkey Trot a 5k race around Ashburn. So off we set with 2000 others for the 8.15am start, just 25mins later Laura passed the finish line not only smashing her personal best but also being the 3rd fastest female in her age group and earning herself a medal! I came in at little while after at 49 mins beating my personal best and also not finishing last my own personal achievement. I have attached the results website below of Laura's amazing time!

We then celebrated with a great turkey dinner with all the trimmings and plenty of dessert keeping us full for the rest of the day. Now American thanksgiving is famous for kicking off the Black Friday sales the day after and as we sat talking in the evening we thought we would check out the internet for some deals.

We noticed that Leesburg Outlet mall started its sales at midnight and as it was 11.45pm I suggested that we avoid the manic shoppers during the day and just head down there immediately and do some midnight shopping. So we left Laura asleep on the sofa and hit the shops, to quickly realise that half of Ashburn had already come up with the same idea and so we spent some time queuing to get near the mall and then to park. But we did manage to pick up some deals as you can see from our photos. We all hit a wall by 2am so decided to head home to bed not before walking past the food court and seeing the place packed with eager shoppers tucking into burgers and fries at 2am. Surreal!

My favourite purchase of the sales has to be my new Skeletoes trainers (a recommendation from Kari) which are meant to be good for running, anything to help the continual couch to 5k training.

Loving the running... and great times by all. Laura could give the boys a run for their money! Not sure late night shopping is the future though. More Canucks T-Shirt required.
