Franz Joseph and Fox Glacier

After recovering from our slight hangovers Kris drove 4 ½ hours to Greymouth which there isn't much to write about as this was a rest stop for the night before we continued another couple of hours the next day onto Franz Joseph and Fox Glacier.

We headed up a very steep mountain to Fox Glacier first, the macs were out in force again as it did not stop raining all day. We did the hour trail to the glacier which involved passing falling rocks and crossing a couple of streams (I didn't fall in) and was spectacular.

We then drove to Lake Matheson a reflective lake and ended up walking a couple of kilometres further than we were supposed to through a forest as we missed the viewing point. Finally just before it got dark we drove to Franz Joseph Glacier and walked the trail to the viewing deck this was less spectacular due to the low lying fog obscuring our view.

We got back to camp in the dark and spent the rest of the evening in front of the fan heater getting the feeling back into our fingers and toes.
